Support at Home is here – a new era in aged care for Australian seniors
On 1 November 2025, the Australian government officially launched its important aged-care reform, which encompassed the Support at Home program. This replaces the old Home Care Packages (HCP) and Short-Term Restorative Care (STRC) schemes and brings a more flexible and transparent model for in-home support for Australian seniors.
What’s changed and why it matters
The new program is designed to help older Australians stay in their homes longer, stay connected to their communities, and access health and wellbeing support. There are several ‘pathways’ in Support at Home:
- Assistive Technology and Home Modifications (AT-HM): Funding for equipment or modifications to help you live safely at home.
- Restorative Care Pathway: Short-term allied health or nursing help to boost customer independence.
- End-of-Life Pathway: Extra care support if you’re in the last three months of life and want to stay at home.
Under the new system, customers will receive a quarterly budget based on their assessed needs. This means instead of a fixed flat daily fee, customers will only pay for the services they receive.
What’s the impact on customers?
Customers who were already receiving support under a Home Care Package will have automatically been moved across to Support at Home as of 1 November 2025, and don’t need to do anything. They will have received all the necessary correspondence about the changes and their new plan.
Registered providers
Providers of Support at Home are required to be registered, and the Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission will regulate them under strengthened quality standards.
Across Australia, there are around 180,000 unregistered providers and only 20,000 registered ones.
Avivo is proud to be a registered provider, committed to delivering high-quality, compliant care.
By choosing a registered provider like Avivo, our customers know they are getting:
